Abbrevations

ch- chain;
sc- single crochet;
inc- increase;
dec- decrease;
p- number of times

Stage 1. Taurus.

We knit from Nako Paris yarn, hook number 3.

1 row: we draw a chain of 19 CH + 1 CH, from the second loop from the hook we knit along the chain 18 SC, into the last loop 3 SC, 18 SC on the other side of the chain from CH, 2 SC into the last loop, SL-ST (42)

2 row: CH, SC in the same loop, 18 SC, 3 İNC, 18 SC, 2 İNC, SL-ST (48)

3 row: CH, SC in the same loop, SC, 18 SC, (İNC, SC) * 3, 18 SC, (İNC, SC) * 2, SL-ST (54)

Next, SL-ST at the end of the row do not do, we knit in a spiral.

4 – 23 (20 rows): 54 SC (54)

24 row: (7 SC, DEC) * 6 (48)

25 row: 48 SC (48)

26 row: (6 SC, DEC) * 6 (42)

27 row: 42 SC (42)

28 row: 3 SC, İNC, (6 SC, İNC) * 5, 3 SC (48)

29 row: (7 SC, İNC) * 6 (54)

30 row: 4 SC, İNC, (8 SC, İNC) * 5, 4 SC (60)

31 row: (9 SC, İNC) * 6 (66)

32 row: 5 SC, İNC, (10 SC, İNC) * 5, 5 SC (72)

33 row: (11 SC, İNC) * 6 (78)

34 – 53 (20 rows): 78 SC (78)

We do not cut the thread yet.

We turn the canvas inside out, because it is more fluffy there (at will) and put aside for a while.

Step 2. Legs.

We take a wire with a diameter of 2 mm and a length of about 60 cm and make a leg blank according to the scheme (see photo 1). Then we smear the finger with glue and wrap it tightly with brown (or black) strings. Thus, we wind all 4 fingers and the leg itself to a height of about 6 – 7 cm, and fix the ends of the thread with glue. We do the second leg in the same way.

We insert the finished legs into the previously knitted little body in the first row of knitting from the bottom, stepping back from the edges of 2 cm. We adjust the legs to the desired height, it can be from 3 to 6 cm, and fix the tape inside the body with tape, wrapping it with a thick layer on the leg (see photo ) We twist the wire from the legs together, isolate. After that, we stuff the body with the filler. We connect the upper edges of the body SL-ST (see photo), fasten the thread, cut it off.

Stage 3. Wings and tail.

WINGS (2 pcs.)

We knit from the same threads as the body, in rotary rows.

1 row: dial 2 CH, in the second loop we knit 2 SC, CH, turn (2)

2 row: 2 İNC, CH, turn (4)

3 row: İNC, 2 SC, İNC, CH, turn (6)

4 row: İNC, 4 SC, İNC, CH, turn (8)

5 row: İNC, 6 SC, İNC, CH, turn (10)

6 row: İNC, 8 SC, İNC, CH, turn (12)

7 – 11 (5 rows): 12 SC, CH, turn (12)

12 row: DEC, 8 SC, DEC, CH, turn (10)

13 row: DEC, 6 SC, DEC, CH, turn (8)

14 row: DEC, 4 SC, DEC (6)

We fix the thread, leave the end for sewing the wing, cut it off.

We knit the second wing in the same way.

Sew the wings on the sides of the body, retreating about 3 rows of SC from the neck.

TAIL.

We knit from the same threads as the body, in rotary rows.

1 row: we draw a chain of 11 CH, from the second from the loop hook we knit along the chain 10 SC, CH, turn (10)

2 – 4 (3 rows): 10 SC, CH, turn (10)

5 row: DEC, 6 SC, DEC, CH, turn (8)

6 – 10 (5 rows): 8 SC, CH, turn (8)

In the 10th row, do not cut the thread, continue to tie the tail:

first we knit SC along the side of the tail, then 2 SC to the bottom corner, 5 DC to the next loop along the bottom of the tail, SC skip, SC, SC skip, 5 DC to the next loop, SC skip, SC, 5 DC to the next loop, 2 SC in the lower corner of the tail, then again we knit SC along the side of the tail to the upper corner.

We fix the thread, leave the end for sewing the tail, cut off.

Sew the tail in the center back.

Step 4. Design.

EYES.

We cut out 2 white blanks for eyes with a size of white (3 * 4) * 3 cm from white felt. We make small cuts in the center of the blanks with scissors. Insert blue (or any other) pupil eyes with a diameter of 25 mm into the incisions. Glue the pupils to the felt detail of the eyes with super-glue. Glue false eyelashes over the felt part of the eyes.

Ready eyes try on an owl on his head, placing them in the 17th row from the top row of knitting. The distance between the eyes can be made as you like. We glue the eyes with transparent super-glue to the head. We make tinting around the eyes with brown dry pastel (optional).

BEAK.

Option 1. Made of polymer clay.

We sculpt the beak from polymer clay of yellow, orange or brown color. I got a beak in the form of an equilateral triangle with sides of about 1 cm. You can make a beak of any size as desired. The reverse side of a thick needle makes two holes on top of the beak that mimic the nostrils. We bake the finished beak according to the instructions, let it cool and glue it between the eyes with super-glue.

Option 2. Knitted beak.

We knit yellow, orange or brown threads (optional). I took yarn with a density of 150m / 50g, hook number 2.

1 row: we dial 2 CH, in the second from the hook we knit a loop 2 SC, CH, turn (2)

2 row: 2 İNC, CH, turn (4)

3 row: İNC, 2 SC, İNC (6)

We do not cut the thread, we tie the beak along the SL-ST contour, then we fix and thread the thread.

We sew the knitted beak with black threads in small stitches in places where the nostrils are located.

After the owl is completely ready, comb it with Velcro or scallop with rare cloves.

Stage 5. Clothing.

CAP.

First, we knit the bottom elastic for the cap with white threads.

1 row: we collect 4 CH + 1 CH, from the second from the hook of the loop we knit 4 SC, CH, turn (4)

2 – 54 (53 rows): per

We do not cut the thread, we connect the edges of the elastic: 4 SL-ST for both half loops.

We continue knitting, we tie a rubber band on top of SC.

1 row: 54 SC (54) and then we knit in a spiral.

2 – 3 row: 54 SC (54)

Change the thread color to turquoise (optional).

Note! If you want to knit a striped cap, like me, then change the thread color every 4 rows of white and 3 rows of turquoise.

4 row: (7 SC, DEC) * 6 (48)

5 – 7 (3 rows): 48 SC (48)

8 row: (6 SC, DEC) * 6 (42)

9 – 11 (3 rows): 42 SC (42)

12 row: (5 SC, DEC) * 6 (36)

13 – 15 (3 rows): 36 SC (36)

16 row: (4 SC, DEC) * 6 (30)

17 – 20 (4 rows): 30 SC (30)

21 row: (3 SC, DEC) * 6 (24)

22 – 25 (4 rows): 24 SC (24)

26 row: (2 SC, DEC) * 6 (18)

27 – 30 (4 rows): 18 SC (18)

31 row: (SC, DEC) * 6 (12)

32 – 35 (4 rows): 12 SC (12)

36 row: 6 DEC (6)

We tighten the remaining hole, fasten the thread, cut it off.

Sew on top of the cap pompom, decorate the cap with buttons or other decorative elements (optional).

SCARF.

Knit with white threads.

1 row: we dial 150 CH + 2 CH, with the third from the hook of the loop we knit 150 DC, CH, turn (150)

Change the thread to turquoise (optional).

2 row: 2 CH, 149 DC, CH, turn (150)

Change the thread to white.

3 row: 2 CH, 149 DC (149)

We fix the thread, cut it off.

The ends of the scarf are decorated with pompons or fringe (optional).

We put the cap and scarf on the owlet.

CONGRATULATIONS! YOUR OWL READY!

Step By Step

Here’s the pattern for the owl’s body:

ABBREVIATIONS
In US terms.
MC= magic circle
SC= single crochet
SL=slip
ST=stitch
CH= chain
HDC=half double crochet
DC= double crochet
INC=increase
DEC=decrease

The pattern is worked in spiral, no need to join at the end of each round.

Make a MC
R1 = 8sc in MC (8)
R2 = sc, 2 sc in each one of the 3 following stitches, sc, 2sc in next 3 sts (14)
R3 = sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next 3 sts, sc in next 4 sts, 2sc in next 3sts, sc in the final 2 sts (20)
R4 = sc in next 5 sts, 2sc in next 3 sts, sc in next 7 sts, 2sc in next 3sts, sc in the final 2 sts (26)
R5= sc in the next 7sts, 2sc in next 3 sts, sc in next 10 sts, 2sc in next 3sts, sc in the final 3 sts (32)
R6= sc around (32)
R7-R20= repeat R6
R21= *sc in next 3 sts, dec* repeat another 5 times, sc in last 2 sts (26)
R22= *sc in sc in next 3 sts, dec* repeat another 4 times, sc in last st (21)
R23= *sc in sc in next 3 sts, dec* repeat another 3 times (17)
R24= *sc in sc in next 3 sts, dec* repeat another 2 times (14)

Don’t secure your yarn but leave a long tail and cut. Once you complete the eyes and nose and stuff the body you will use this tail to crochet close the opening.
Now let’s make the eyes. Cut two circles or ovals from your felt. With you fingers pinch them and make a slit with your scissors to the lower left end and on the other eye to the lower right one.

Fit the eyes through the slits of the felt.

Find the center of the body and insert the eyes (along with the felt) to a couple of rows above the center.

Secure the eyes on the inside of the body. Press the discs firmly to make sure the eyes will stay put.

Now that your owl’s eyes are in place it’s take to embroider the nose. Use your yarn needle and the yellow yarn. You need to make a triangle under the center of the eyes.

A few stitches to fill the triangle and you are set!

Now it’s time to stuff the owl. Make sure to fill it to the top.

After you stuffed the owl press the opening side together and using sc close the opening.

I made the ears with yarn. For each ear I used 2 pieces of the yarn color I used for the body (in this case pink), two pieces of either one of the other two colors (blue or lilac) and one piece of yellow.

Use your hook to pull through all the yarn pieces in the two ends of the owl’s closure site. Then make a secure knot with all the pieces and cut with your scissors to about 2-3cms.

You owl is now ready!

I’ve made 61 of these owls! I only hope they will be enough for the kids! And that they’ll like them!

So, what do you think? I’d love to see your owls if you decide to make some with my pattern! Of course you are totally free to make them and sell them just please give me the credit of the pattern with a link. Thanks!
Lot’s of love

Ears And Feathers

The ears are made in fuchsia pink by making little tassels on top op the head.
The easiest way to do this is by cutting some yarn stings and looping them in under a stitch on the head. You can then finish the tassels by knotting a smaller piece of yarn around it.
Embroider the little feathers on the belly in fuchsia pink.
Sew a pink fuchsia wood flower next to the owl’s left ear.
And finally add a wooden button with the word “handmade” on the back.
Congratulations! You’ve finished your cute amigurumi owl!

Decoration Alternatives

If you don’t have a button to decorate your owl with, consider using other cute little ornaments. I have included two patterns for this purpose: a little crochet butterfly and a crochet bow. This way your owl will be the sweetest one out there!

BONUS PATTERN: Little Butterfly!

Chain 8, close the loop with a slipstitch.
Chain 3, 2 dc, repeat (ch 3, 3 dc)*7.
Chain 3, slst in first set of chain 3, slst in second sc.
In the first and second “holes”: 1 sc, 1 hdc, 4 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc.
In the third “hole” crochet 1 sc, 1 hdc, 2 dc, ch 3. Slst in first of the ch 3. Continue with 2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc.
In the fourth “hole”: repeat third hole.
In fifth and sixth hole crochet 1 sc, 1 hdc, 4 dc, 1 hdc, 1sc.
In seventh and eigth hole: repeat third hole.
You’ll end up with a “flower” with two different kinds of petals (round and “pointy”).
Fold this flower over, you can do this in different ways.
In a contrasting color chain 11, fasten off. Tie this piece around the folded flower to create the body of the butterfly and cut off leaving some ends as the antennae (see photo!).

BONUS PATTERN: Little Heart Bow!

This pattern is worked in two loops. The stitches that are not worked in those loops are worked into the middle space. This is the part between the hearts.
Round 1: Chain 9. Slst in the 8th chain from the hook and slip stitch into the 1 remaining chain. Chain 8. Slst into 8th chain from the hook. Crochet 1 sc into the next 4 stitches, 2 hdc into the next 2 stitches, 2 dc into next stitch, 1 hdc in the next stitch, slip stitch into the loop.
Continue with 1 hdc, 2 dc in next stitch, 2 hdc in next 2 stitches, 1 sc in next 4 stitches, slst into slst of previous round. Slst into middle space. Repeat round 3 for the other loop (this will form the other heart). End with slst into the middle space.
Round 4: 1 slst in next 2 stitches, 1 sc into next 6 stitches, 2 hdc into next 3 stitches, 1 sc in next stitch, 1 slst on each side of slip stitch from previous round.
Continue with 1 sc, 2 hdc in next 3 stitches, 1 sc in next 6 stitches, slst in next 2 stitches. Repeat round 4 for the other half.
Finish off, but leave a long tail to wrap around the center.
Fold your bow in half length wise and wrap your long tail around the center.
